Take a leisurely country stroll along the river on the edge of the village of Acton Bridge where river cruise trips run from just off the A49.

This Victorian country house built in the Elizabethan style is well worth a visit. It has been voted one of the top 50 gardens in Europe.  Arley's beautiful gardens are over 17 acres -  the double hebaceous border is said to be the oldest in England.  Arley has many unique features, the impressive Ilex Avenue, Tea Cottage Garden, Topiary, Shrub rose garden, Herb, Scented and Walled Gardens. The village of Arley is picturesque and also nearby is Great Budworth village.

In Styal village is approximately 30 minutes drive away and is an old cotton mill that was started in the 1700's by Samuel Greg. Samuel's great great grandson, Alexander Carlton Greg, gave this old mill to the National Trust in 1939. Mr Greg lived at Ash House Farm for over 50 years until his death in 1990. The mill, Styal Country Park and the Apprentice House all make for an interesting place to visit.

is a unique piece of Victorian engineering,  The lift drops canal boats 50 feet between the Trent & Mersey Canal(higher) and Weaver Navigation (lower).  River trips are available with boatmaster’s commentaries. Anderton Boat Lift is about 15 minutes drive from Ash House Farm.  Whilst visiting Anderton Boat Lift you can have a delicious meal at the Stanley Arms

Oulton Park is widely acknowledged as the most picturesque race circuit in the country.  It is set in stunning surroundings where spectators can enjoy superb views of the all the  action, whether it be the Superbike Championships or a Classic Car Show. Oulton Park is only about 15 minutes drive from Ash House Farm.

 

 

 

 

 

sucklers_300.jpgFor the rambler there are excellent scenic walks through the village of Acton Bridge.  Ash House Farm once a dairy farm has now gone over to producing beef, the cattle shown are Stabiliser cattle grazing out in the fields roaming in the  lush green countryside.  In the winter time sheep graze the fields, they come for the season down from North Yorkshire. The farm has quite a few footpaths running through the land belonging to Ash House Farm.  

 

 

 

 

 

 

d_v.jpgAn excellent walk goes through the farmyard and down into the next village of Crowton. Another relaxing walk within about half an hours' ramble is down to Dutton Viaduct along the River Weaver to Dutton Locks towards Davenports Tea Rooms and organic Farm shop.  Perhaps you would like to visit the Leigh Arms a little further along.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

cyclists.jpgAsh House Farm is located just off the Cheshire Cycleway. The signposted route takes you along quiet lanes to visit some of the county's gems on a 282 km (176 mile) round trip which takes in Chester, pops up to Parkgate, directs you across the Cheshire plain and delivers fine views from high up in the gritstone hills to the east, just inside the Peak National Park. There is storage for cycles and drying facilities for clothing.

 

 

 

  

 

The historic cities of Chester, Liverpool and Manchester all being about 30 minutes drive away. National Trust properties close by include Tatton Park , Dunham Massey, and Quarry Bank Mill.  Also Chester Zoo, Blue Planet Aquarium, Boat Museum and Cheshire Oaks Outlet Village, Ellesmere Port and Port Sunlight Village.

Other attractions very close by are Anderton Boat Lift, Go Ape and Delamere Forest which is also a venue for Concerts, Black Prince narrow boat holidays base, Davenports Farm Shop & Tea Room, Farmer4aday (experience a day in the life of a farmer),  The Salt Museum,  Stockley working farm, Cotebrook Shire Horse Centre,  Blakemere Craft Centre (Aquatic and Falconry Centre) Oulton Park Racing Circuit is approximately 15 minutes south of Ash House Farm.

Family days out

Family activities

There are a range of family activities within a short distance of Ash House Farm. Why not take the family for a visit to Arley on a weekend break. Perhaps you would like to visit Chester Zoo, which is said to be one of the best zoos in the country. If the weather is not too good there is always the Blue Planet Aquarium undercover. Within 10 minutes drive there is Blakemere Craft Centre ideal for families or adults - there are a number of Craft Shops and also a Falconry Centre.  Another craft centre nearby is Lady Heyes at Frodsham.

 

More places to visit close by 

Blakemere Craft Centre less than 10 minutes drive is day out for all ages.  Falconry days are held here and Ash House Farm is an excellent base to stay if you have been lucky enough to have  Falconry Day purchased as a gift.

You could also visit Quarry Bank Mill, Styal, Wilmslow, the Mill is only half an hour's drive from Ash House Farm. A day out at this working Cotton Mill is of interest to all ages. About 15 minutes drive from Ash House Farm there is the Hollies Farm Shop which is a wonderful farm shop (The Harrods of the North ) also the Shire Horse Centre at Cotebrook, and a little further for the more energetic Beeston Castle where you can see and excellent view of Cheshire.
